BACKGROUND

Firstly the name "Lil Bit"...  I was in deepest darkest Indonesia, on a small island off the coast of West Sumatra in the Mentawais. I was staying with a local family who barely spoke a word of English. We were telling each other what our whole names were, and I said "Lucy Elizabeth Owen", and the one guy laughed and said; "Lucy a little bit Owen?" He knew enough English to know that "a 'little bit" was not a name. And for the rest of my stay there, he called me "Lucy a 'lil bit".

I started my Illustration and Graphic Design career when I was only a child. I was drawing from the time I could first use a pen. I would sit for hours with my dad drawing my pets, my house but mostly people with legs coming out of their heads. Luckily my figure drawing skills got better with age. Art was always my favourite subject at school and I carried it on until Matric (last year of school), along with Design, where I did graphics and interiors. Photography also was a bit of a passion of mine, and ever since I got a digital camera I have been taking "way too many photos" as my friends always say. I take my little Canon with me everywhere and always capture the events that unfold throughout my life.

So obviously Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography was the college I chose because I could do both things that I loved. In first year we did Photography and Graphic Design, and in second year I chose to do Graphics as my major and Photography as my minor. By the end of my third and final year I received 73% for my final exhibition and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Applied Design.

Since then I have been travelling in Australia and Indonesia and have been doing a few internships. One with Interior and Furniture Designer Haldane Martin and a company that specialises in online video- Audio Visual Alchemy. I have also been doing freelance Graphic Design work.
